What do I need for practice?!
Greetings Dolphins!
Can't you just feel the steam that will be coming off the pool after we pull off those covers tomorrow?! We're excited to get to swimming tomorrow! Yeha!
There have been some questions on what swimmers need to be bringing to practice so thought we would send out a little reminder with some helpful links if you're new to swim team.
SWIM SUIT - girls: need a swim suit (can be 1 or athletic 2 piece) that won't fall off when you push off the wall in a super tight steamline position. Costco seasonally gets in some great youth speedo brand options but www.swimoutlet.com is a GREAT place to get all your swim needs for a great price. There are all the awesome swim brands on there but the Sporti brand is generally the cheapest and works great. Boys should go with jammers, briefs or speedos but are welcome to wear their swim trunks if they stay on when pushing off the wall in a super fast steamline. The down side to not wearing a speedo, brief or jammers is that it's a lot of extra material dragging in the water that can make swimming harder.
GOGGLES - for 8 and up ish kids speedo vanquishers or sporti antifog S2 o rS3 mirrored are very loved: https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/swim-goggle... - for kids 8 and under any of these WITHOUT foam do well, a popular one is sporti antifog jr
https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/kids-swim-g... Amazon also has some great kids goggles: https://www.amazon.com/Romoc-Swimming-Goggles-Leak...
SWIM CAPS - encouraged if your hair is past your ears but not a deal breaker if not. Latex or silicon caps are both great. Latex are way cheaper ($2-5) and stay on well, however they can pull a tinsy bit on hair. Silicon are more spendy ($10-15) but are smoother in feel. They may feel a little funny if you've never swam but this is totally normal and it helps the kids be able to focus while swimming verses trying to see or get hair out of their face to breathe. Another great buy for www.swimoutlet.com. If your child is vehemently against a cap, that's ok too. Eventually they will be able to feel the difference in speed in wearing one and not which is a great motivator.
FINS - encouraged for the senior swimmers to be able to incorporate in practice. SO many uses from having better technique when tired, to kickouts/breakouts focus, to speedwork and more! Coach Brian can give more specifics at practice or if you have any questions on types, reach out.
WATER BOTTLE - help train your kids to bring their water bottle and have it on deck at their lane with them for every practice. The water is 82 and we don't realize how much we are sweating when we're working hard in water. Little sips throughout practice with keep ya hydrated.
Looking forward to seeing old faces and meeting new! See ya at the pool,
Swimmingly,
Coach LeeAnn
