COVID -19 - Durham Dolphins

Good afternoon Dolphin Pod.
We wanted to provide an update regarding COVID-19 given the various closures and cancellations that are taking place.

We are closely monitoring developments and following the guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as any information from Butte County Public Health and local school districts.

This week, we talked with DRPD, reviewed USA Swimming and Sierra Nevada Swimming statements concerning COVID-19, and are able to continue swim practice for all age groups. AGAIN, PRACTICE WILL CONTINUE AS SCHEDULED.

USA Swimming made this statement:

“In prioritizing the health and wellness of all our members, as of March 12, USA Swimming has made the decision to suspend all our events, camps, conferences, or any occasion that requires individuals to travel and gather for the next 30 days. We also strongly recommend that our Local Swimming Committees (LSC) and clubs suspend all USA Swimming sanctioned competitions across the country for the next 30 days.”

As always, we are reminding our families to stay home if you are sick. It is recommended to wash hands frequently. Also, use a tissue to wipe a nose, cough, or sneeze, if at all possible, throw it away. Stay active, eat a healthy diet, get plenty of rest, incorporate immunity boosters, and get out in the sunshine! Heard this bugger doesn’t like the heat!

Here are some best practices to avoid illness:

  1. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer that has 60-95% alcohol. This is especially important after going to the bathroom, before eating, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  2. Cover your cough and sneezes with a tissue or corner of your sleeve. Do not use your hands. Throw the tissue away and wash your hands.
  3. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands, especially your mouth, nose, and eyes.
  4. Avoid close contact with sick people.
  5. Stay home if you are sick, especially from work, school, and public places.
  6. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

We all understand that this situation is in a constant state of flux but will try to keep you up to date on any information provided to us.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

See you at the pool as usual!
